Yukon Mining Alliance to Present $50,000 Cheque to Make-A-Wish Foundation from 2017 Dig Deep Fundraiser

WHITEHORSE, YT, Nov. 16, 2017 /CNW/ - Yukon miners Dig Deep for Yukon minors. The Yukon Mining Alliance ("YMA") is excited to announce a special cheque presentation ceremony to be held November 19th at 9am (PST) during the 2017 Yukon Geoscience Investment Forum in Whitehorse.

Seamus and his mom, Amy, with Shaggy & Scooby-Doo (CNW Group/Yukon Mining Alliance)

As part of the 2017 Yukon Mining Investment Conference, held in Dawson City, the YMA and its member companies conducted the inaugural "Mining for Wishes – Dig Deep" campaign to help Make-A-Wish® BC & Yukon ("Make-A-Wish") bring a little joy into the lives of some very special Yukon children. Through the overwhelming generosity of all delegates and attendees, the event generated $50,000 in donations; enough to grant all four pending Yukon wishes.

Anne Lewis, Executive Director of YMA, stated, "The leaders in Yukon exploration and mining are proud to be developing some of the world's top mining assets, with Yukon First Nation, Territorial and local governments, while supporting the health, wellness and prosperity of the communities they operate in. The YMA, its member companies and all our partners and industry friends, are honored to join Make-A-Wish in helping children with medically-life threatening conditions "Dig Deep" to discover the hope, strength and joy that exists in life. It's just another example of what makes Yukon the best mining jurisdiction in the world."

Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon CEO, Ross Heatherington, stated, "The Yukon Mining Alliance has discovered what we at Make-A-Wish know: that wishes do more than just bring smiles to wish kids and their families for a moment in time. Wishes create enduring memories and happy feelings that become part of a wish child's life story. We're so thankful for the support from this caring organization."

Among the four wish kids from Yukon families, was six-year-old Seamus who lives with Cystic Fibrosis. He has to cope with frequent lung infections, including pneumonia and bronchitis, wheezing and shortness of breath; and that's only part of the daily struggles in the life of a child with CF. There is currently no cure, though current treatments allow people with CF to live longer, better-quality lives than ever before.

Thanks to the success of this event, Make-A-Wish was able to immediately contact Seamus's family to let them know his wish was being granted. Seamus wished for a magic wand, one that might help him find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. This summer, the family was whisked off to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida to see Seamus' wish come true.

Seamus' Mom, Amy, stated, "What an amazing trip it was! From the minute we touched down in Florida, to landing at home, every single wish came true, and every thought was possible. Seamus has spoken of nothing but his wish from the day it was granted; we used to talk about cystic fibrosis all the time, and now we talk about magic. Seamus spends time practicing with his magic wand every single day. Getting to spend a week of his overly meticulous life parading through parks, riding rides, meeting characters, and living in a world where magic does happen has changed our lives forever. We are eternally grateful for the experience and the memories we have been given. This wish, in no small part, has already changed our lives forever. It has made our outlook a little more inspired and our spirits a little more humbled; it has brought the magic back into our lives, and for that I am forever grateful. Thank you, from the bottom of our lungs."
