BHP profits slump, sees global slowdown

Global miner BHP Billiton has reported a 6% decline in attributable profits for the first half of 2012, with profits reaching $9,9-billion, compared with the $10.5-billion in the previous corresponding period.
CEO Marius Kloppers said on Wednesday that the first half of the financial year faced challenges in terms of the global economic growth reflecting the continued difficulties in Europe, and the slowing levels of activity in the high growth economies of China and India.
