Premier Gold Mines Limited Showcases Top Management Team and Canadian Red Lake and Hardrock Deposits at New York’s Metals and Minerals Show

on 6/14/2013

Ewan Downie, the President and CEO of Premier Gold Mines Limited (TSX: PG), took some time out from his schedule at New York’s Metals and Minerals Show to speak with Metals News about the newest developments with the Red Lake and Trans-Canada properties in Canada.  Downie credited much of their progress to the quality of his management team.

Downie, like many top managers in the mining business, believes that a company cannot move forward in a challenging market without the guidance of experienced, top managers.  Downie believes that one of those types of teams exists at Premier Gold Mines Limited.  He said, “We’ve assembled what I view to be one of the top teams among our peer group.  We have recently assembled a very core team led by mining developers.”  The role of the management group has been to advance their projects beyond their current state into a place of profitability for the company.  Downie said, “We have been working on bringing the Company’s projects from exploration to development and the team we have is unparalleled in terms of our group.”  In fact, Downie has so much confidence in his team that he believes that they compare to those at the largest companies in the industry.  He said, “In terms of our team, it is on par with many of the major mining companies.”

Another area that Downie believes differentiates Premier Gold Mines Limited from many others in the resource sector is their level of financing.  He said, “Premier is a company that is fully financed.  We currently have over $100 million dollars in cash investment while a lot of people are struggling for finances.  We are in very good shape to drive the Company forward.”  Premier Gold Mines Limited has been moving forward with their strategic plan, one that has given them success to date.  Downie said, “There’s been very little change in our path to growth and development.”  Despite the challenges in the market, Downie believes that the company has an excellent future.  Said Downie, “It reminds me of 2008 when our stock rebounded by 500%.  I expect that we’ll see a good bounce in this market and that Premier will be a top performer.”

Currently, Premier Gold Mines Limited is working on several properties, with their focus being on three.  Downie said, “We have three core properties that we are drilling right now.” Downie and his team will be taking an aggressive stance toward exploration this year.  He said, “We will be drilling over 100,000 meters in 2013.  It will be a big year for us.” The three projects that Premier Gold Mines Limited is focused on are all in mining-friendly jurisdictions.  Said Downie, “Our three projects are in North America and focused on gold.”  Red Lake and Trans-Canada are two of the three that Downie and his team are moving forward.  In fact, they are working in areas with current development.  Downie said, “Goldcorp is linking its two Red Lake mines with a tram that is trending through our joint venture project.  We are a partner of Goldcorp in this area - an enviable position to be in.”  Another project for Premier Gold Mines Limited is called Hardrock.  Downie said, “Hardrock is a project that we are doing a PEA on.” Premier Gold Mines Limited will be pursing quite a few targets this year on Hardrock.  Downie said, “We have eight drills going with 100,000 meters of drilling just this year and then going right to feasibility.”  Currently, the company has seen a good deal of potential on the property.  Said Downie, “We have a multi-million ounce high grade open pit resource and underground resources with another several million inferred.”  The Company’s Cove Project in Nevada also has the potential to host a significant gold resource in the ground.  Said Downie, “Cove is under lease with Newmont and we hope to delineate a plus one million ounce deposit.  Our project is turning out some of the best recent drill results in Nevada.”

As a company, Premier Gold Mines Limited has a significant number of institutional investors.  Downie said, “We have approximately 150 million shares out with the largest three or four holding approximately 25%.”  Those that know Premier Gold Mines Limited well are currently buying stock. Said Downie, “We were recently highlighted by the TSX for insider buying.  We would also like to get a bit more of the non-institutional investors in our company.”  One of the reasons for the drive toward retail investors is that institutional investors can often sell based solely on redemptions not company fundamentals.  Downie said, “We have had a recent drop in our share price, largely based on redemptions in mutual funds.  However, so far our largest shareholders have been sticking with us.  We have traded in the high threes, low fours and went up to $6.50.  Recently, we have dropped down to the $2.00 range - back to where we were in 2008.  In 2010, we traded as high as $8.00 and we think we are in a better state than we were a few years ago.”

Why should investors consider Premier Gold Mines Limited as a potential stock to add to their portfolio?  Downie said, “I think we have built one of the top management teams in our sector.  Members of Premier’s management have been involved in numerous major gold discoveries including the High Grade Zone in Red Lake, a discovery that essentially made Goldcorp.  Investors should take a look at who is running a company.”  In addition, Downie believes there are benefits to working in a mining-friendly environment.  He said, “We are totally North American focused.  We are not in the Congo.  All of our properties have power and roads – infrastructure is a key ingredient for mine success.  The Company is fully financed without having the need to raise more money.  Also, look for significant news flow this year with all of our drilling.  Hopefully, much of this will be good news!”
