WARRENDALE, PA – [September 10, 2014] –The Materials Research Society (MRS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Damon A. Dozier as its new Director of Government Affairs. He succeeds Ronald Kelly, who is retiring after 23 years of outstanding service and leadership in MRS’s Washington Office.

Dozier, formerly the Director of Public Affairs for the American Anthropological Association (AAA), will be, in conjunction with the MRS Government Affairs Committee, responsible for the overall direction of all MRS advocacy and public policy activities. Based in Washington, DC, his duties will include developing government relations strategies and programs, informing members about legislative developments, and serving as a chief advocate on interdisciplinary materials research and technology issues.

Dozier brings 20 years of government and policy experience to MRS. His work experience includes serving as an Assistant Advocate for Environmental Policy with the Small Business Administration, a Legislative Assistant on the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Director of Government and Public Affairs for the National Small Business Association.  Dozier also served as the Legislative Director for former Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald.  In his most recent position at AAA, Dozier was responsible for conceptualizing, planning and directing government affairs, media relations and international policy functions, including relationships with the United Nations.

"MRS is thrilled to have Damon on board as the new Director of Government Affairs," said MRS Executive Director Todd Osman. "His experience representing scientists, small businesses and entrepreneurs will be a great asset as MRS expands its advocacy efforts on behalf of the interdisciplinary materials community.”

Dozier received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989 from Howard University in Washington, DC, and is an active member of several scholarly societies, including the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and the Council of Engineering and Social Science Executives (CESSE).
