PLANSEE USA CELEBRATES 70TH ANNIVERSARY

Franklin, Mass. - (APMI, October 26, 2009) - Plansee USA,is celebrating 70 years in business. The manufacturer of refractory metal products was originally incorporated in 1939 under the name American Electro Metal Corp. (AEM) by Paul Schwarzkopf, founder of Plansee AB, Reutte, Austria.
The company operated facilities in Yonkers, New York, and in 1955 changed its name to Schwarzkopf Development Corporation, later opening a warehouse and sales operation in Holliston, Mass., in 1970. It became Schwarzkopf Technologies in 1991 and built the current 62,000 sq. ft. production plant in Franklin, Mass., in 1996. It changed names again in 2007 to Plansee USA.
Several well-known early powder metallurgists worked for AEM in Yonkers, including Henry Hausner, Richard Seelig, and Claus Goetzel. Albert Einstein, the famed physicist, toured the plant.
“Customers from the electronics, lighting technology, glass, medical technology, aerospace and thermal processing industries have been relying for decades on our extensive knowledge in high-performance materials and expertise in high-precision machining and fabrication of refractory metals and composite materials,” reports Egon Okorn, president and CEO.
