Washington, D.C., October 1, 2015 – On Friday, October 2, in partnership with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), The Manufacturing Institute, the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International and the U.S. Department of Commerce, thousands of manufacturers across the country will participate in Manufacturing Day. During this annual event, companies open their doors to students, parents and educators and showcase the many career opportunities available through manufacturing. More than 2,000 Manufacturing Day events are scheduled in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Canada and Europe. “Manufacturing opens doors of opportunity for everyone,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons. “There are so many eager young people across the country seeking rewarding and exciting careers—and manufacturing delivers that path every day. We hear time and again from students who have said visiting a manufacturing facility has made them more likely to consider a career in manufacturing.” Among other things, the thousands of Manufacturing Day participants will learn the many reasons why manufacturing skills pay off:
- An entry-level manufacturing engineer can expect to earn about $60,000 annually.
- The average manufacturing worker earns more than $77,000 annually, which is about $15,000 more than the average worker across all sectors.
- Manufacturing workers enjoy the best job security in the private sector and help improve the overall economy.
