 Valoriza Mining is a subsidiary of Sacyr Group, one of the biggest construction and services companies of Spain.
Sacyr is best known globally for being the Panama Channel main contractor.
Valoriza mining is a newly created company, fully owned by Sacyr, focused on developing mining opportunities in Spain, mostly in Cooper, Gold, Tin and Tungsten.
Spain is one of the Tungsten reserves in Europe, with a vast geological knowledge since ancient times. In particular the Galician region (northwest of Spain) has plenty of tungsten resources.
Not only are the assets good, but also the country provides the projects with necessary political stability, legal protection, logistics and infrastructures necessary to create a good scenario for mining.
On the other hand, the permitting, as in all developed countries, is complex, and also the idiosyncrasy of the area should be considered.
Sacyr is a first class player in Spain, due to their size (over 23.000 employees), their past history (over 25 years), the fact of being listed in the IBEX 35 (where the 35 biggest Spanish companies are) and the permanent presence in all the Spanish regions.
These facts lend professionalism to both, administration and investors, during either the provision of permits, or investing in a project.
Valoriza Mining will develop their own projects from the Greenfield or Brownfield stage, up to production.
In Tungsten, Valoriza is planning to reopen one classic mine in Galicia, able to produce 500 tn of concentrate by the end of 2015. Thereafter another 2 Brownfield projects in the same area will raise the production up to 1.500 tn by the end of 2016.
The high value of the product permits concentrating in a common facility, the treatment plant, allowing scale benefits on the cost side.
Valoriza is planning to share one concentration plant with some production mines within the same area.
The tungsten is considering one of the 14 strategic minerals for the EU, which helps obtain financing and subsidies from the government.
On the company side, Valoriza mining has built a team with both young and experienced mining engineers that will assure high quality standards for their projects.
